Crazy Sexy Day Four

Day four of my Crazy Sexy Diet cleanse went quite smoothly. It started with another Green Guru Smoothie made with avocado, banana, romaine, probiotic powder, water and cucumber. That recipe and all recipes from today are in Kris Carr's Crazy Sexy Diet book:

My smoothie held me over until about 10:30 a.m., and then I snacked on this grapefruit. Although grapefruit is acidic, it has an alkalizing effect on the body. And since I'm trying to boost my alkalinity, I think this was a good snack choice:

Lunch was more I Am Loved Nori Rolls from Crazy Sexy Diet. I made enough rice and chopped enough veggies to eat these for four days, but I'm making fresh rolls each day because I'm not fond of leftover rolled sushi:

Also for lunch was more Ginger-Lemongrass Miso Soup. For this, I made the lemongrass-infused ginger/onion broth in advance. But I left out the miso. Each day, I'm re-heating a portion of the broth on the stove and adding in miso after removing from the heat:

Around 3:30 p.m., my lunch started to wear off, so I snacked on some Living Intentions White Chocolate "Gone Nuts!" These are sprouted, raw cashews and almonds seasoned with cacao butter and cacao nibs. You can order these in all sorts of flavors on Vegan Essentials:

And then around 4-ish, I had another snack — Carrot Sticks, Red Pepper, and Garlic Hummus:

Dinner was a new dish tonight — Teriyaki Tofu over Millet:

And Cabbage Hemp Slaw:

The tofu was marinated in a mixture of oil, garlic, agave, and vinegar, and that made it taste like teriyaki sauce. But unlike the teriyaki in the bottle, this stuff was free of refined sugar. The Cabbage Hemp Slaw was delicious and fresh — shredded cabbage mixed with hemp seeds, cilantro, and oils.

I haven't experienced any real detox symptoms yet, but I have noticed that without caffeine, I start to get sleepy around 7 p.m. But I can't go to bed then. I have too much to do every night. It's midnight, and I'm fighting sleep. So goodnight!

I had a similar dinner--the same tofu over rice (my hubbie refused my original proposal of--millet!). It was good, but took forever. I added some spinach instead of the cabbage salad, but I'll have to schedule the salad for another day after your review.

That tofu and cabbage salad are making my mouth water. I'll look up Kris Carr's recipe this weekend so I can try. Thanks!!

I've thought so many times about doing a cleanse, but have never made the leap. Reading about your experience helps, thanks!

That slaw sounds really good, but I am definitely a fan of all things hemp. :)

And I LOVE millet!

Wow, I seriously admire you for this! I have been thinking about trying this detox but am a little scared. I'll keep reading and hopefully get inspired to start! :)

The "Gone Nuts" snacks are so good...I first found them at Living Light in NorCal, and got addicted. I miss them! PS, grapefruits are the best ever.

I love seeing the green smoothie juxtaposed with your profile picture to the right. You said you haven't had any detox symptoms but I would love to hear more about any effects you notice while on this cleanse - I've never done one!

That lemongrass miso soup looks divine... I would find it hard to eat a smoothie for breakfast for 21 days, but your other meals seem satisfying, especially today.

When you say detox symptoms, do you mean in a good or bad way?

(I really should check out that book, I think, more and more I read about your adventure!)

I love those Living Intentions Nuts.

I had forgotten than tofu and agave were allowed on the cleanse. In my mind it seemed stricter.

Now I'm craving a grapefuit.

Hi! Re: affordable juicing- a local grocery we go to has produce that is about to expire for $1.00/bundle, so I use a lot of that. I also alternate between juicing (one batch of Kris Carr's recipe in a few jars will last me 2 days) and green smoothies with store-brand frozen fruit and some salad greens. I pretty much check out what's cheap at the store and plan around that. I'm finding green juice addictive!!

Looks pretty decent for detox food! Especially like the healthy snacks!

I read an article about Kris Carr in the NYT a few months ago, and she's awesome. This diet sounds like exactly what I'd been hoping to do for the New Year to keep my energy up. (Oh, and actually getting more than 6 hours of sleep a night. Minor detail.)

I read that book cover to cover - but have yet to try the cleanse! Although - I've now added more juices to my day and dry scrub before my showers. You're doing such a great job!! Keep it up!!

I have yet to make my own sushi. Is it a difficult process?
