I held my last two Memphis Cookin' Crunk booksignings over the weekend. Next, I will be demo-ing and signing at Atlanta VegFest (Nov. 10th) and at the Green Corner Store in Little Rock (Nov. 17th).
It was a busy, busy weekend with my local signings though. On Friday afternoon, I signed books at Whole Foods. They set me up outside by the front entrance, that way everyone who entered the store had to walk past me:
I sold quite a few books to people who hadn't previously heard of it, and I sold some to long-time blog readers and friends:
It helped that Sir Terry, Whole Foods' most animated demo specialist, was outside with me, serving up samples of my Tempeh Gumbo and Vegan Pimento Cheese (both from the book, of course):
On Saturday morning, I did a cooking demo and signing at Easy Way Produce Store on Cooper. Easy Way is a Memphis produce chain that's been around for 80 years! It's locally owned and awesome. They mostly specialize in produce, but they also sell jams and jellies, Amish popcorn, and other treats. They also have a dairy section, which I'm standing in front of (but just pretend that's not there, vegan friends):
Easy Way doesn't have a heat source or stove to use, so I made three salads from Cookin' Crunk. First, I whipped up a simple Broccoli Salad with Spicy Citrus Vinaigrette:
And then I made some Southwestern Corn Salad (corn, peppers, onions, and a balsamic vinaigrette):
Finally, I made my Tofu Olive Eggless Salad:
This stuff really blew some people away, mostly because of the black salt. The people at this demo mostly weren't vegans, and most had never heard of black salt. I passed the bag around, and people were amazed by how much it smells like eggs! Black salt is magic.

Congratulations on your successful book signings. It's probably a good thing you were near the dairy section...you could attract non vegan people :-)
Also, the picture of Sir Terry is hilarious!!
That photo of Sir Terry is phenomenal! Such a great capture, ha! Congrats on two more successful book signings! Looks like so much fun! :)
ahhh so bummed you're coming to atlanta right after i moved! :( would love to meet you/buy a book/sample some of your tasty recipes! that photo of terry at wfm is the best. : )
I bought your cookbook! I made the skillet cornbread! It is TO DIE for! Had it with Isa's Hottie Blackeyed Peas and Greens (from "Appetite...)--a good match and I can never choose which to cook from, so I chose both books. :-) Next up, I'll be making that pimiento cheese spread. Thanks for all your hard work and inspiration! As we say at my house, "Yum, y'all!"
ha! I love the photo of the demo fellow at Whole Foods. And I love that Easy Way put you right in front of the dairy. Stop! Before you buy the milk... :)
I'm so glad the book signings are going well and you are selling lots of books! yay!!
Little Rock!! Yay, awesome! I'll definitely set a reminder to come out there for this. I'm really looking forward to it. :)
Made the Hot Tamale Pie, it so rocked!
