Cheeze Toast and Mamafish!

I discovered one of the coolest things ever today! One of my favorite local coffeeshops now serves Vegan Cheeze Toast. I stopped into Otherlands Coffeehouse to do a little work on my laptop, and lo and behold, a little sign next to the register read, "We now have vegan cheeze toast!" I had to order some, along with my Vanilla Soy Coffee Freeze:

Doesn't it look all melty and delicious?! I think it's Follow Your Heart, but I'm not certain. Whatever it is, it's delicious. The fresh bread is grilled so it has a hearty just-came-off-the-flame taste.

I noshed on the bread while working on my new gay rights news blog for the Memphis Flyer (the altweekly newspaper I work for) website. It's called Memphis Gaydar and you can link to it here if you care to read about LBGT issues in Memphis. Right now, our county commission is considering an ordinance that would make it illegal to discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender identity for workers in county government. Amazingly, the radical right Bible-thumping crazies have managed to convince several commission members that gay people don't deserve equal rights (however, a good number of the not-crazy churches are standing in support of the ordinance). They county commission will vote on that today.

In other news, I finally mailed a birthday gift for Shellyfish's mom as part of the 60-Day Project over on her blog, Musings from the Fishbowl. Shellyfish asked her readers to sign up to send her mother a small gift for her 60th birthday, and then we were all assigned weeks in which to mail our gifts. My week was last week, and I sent this Zhena's Gypsy Tea (fair trade and organic!) and a batch of my friend Uele's super-delicious locally-made Groovy Foods Civil Granola:

Happy Belated Birthday, Mamafish!

The cheeze toast looks nummy - it's good to know that stuff like this is creeping into everyday menus at coffeeshops.

I'll have to check out your blog for the alt weekly - lawmakers here in North Dakota (unsurprisingly) defeated legislation this year that would have guaranteed GLBT equal rights in employment, housing, and elsewhere. Then they turn around and wonder why so many young people tend to leave North Dakota as soon as they're able. Go figure.

You are so awesome! Your gift to Mamafish looks really great.

I think your favourite coffeeshop is now my favourite coffeeshop, too.

Vegan cheeze toast huh? It looks awesome. I have yet to try FYH "cheese", mainly because everything else I've tried has been so disappointing.

That's so sweet that you sent a b-day present to Mamafish!!

Your cheese toast is so melty! I looks amazing.

We're still dealing with all of this Prop 8 crap in California - it's so depressing that some religious jerks think it's okay to deny equal rights to people.

Awesome job on the LBGT stuff. I'm not gay but 2 of my best friends are. This whole thing is a tragedy :(

At least there's cheezy toast :)

What a great present, thank you. I love the fragrance of the tea, and I think I will have a cup right now. Funny thing, I have been wanting some homemede granola, and I just looked up an old recipe I have that I haven't made in years. You guys seem to know everything I like. I love the fishies on the envelope. Love, Mamafish

It's astonishing that some places don't already have laws against discrimination based on sexual orientation, and even MORE astonishing that anyone would want to fight the cause. Good luck with that!

Oh, and the cheese toast = awesome.

No one could understand why the markings that had once been white were now red. Dirt and grime smeared his skin, and his sleek hair was a knotted, tangled mess. A little while ago. Thought perhaps Brevin would drop his pants and let Lanthan fuck him. The stone beneath her clutching fingers started to crumble. Radins lips brushed her temples, his fingers still stroking her loose hair. Gala knelt at her side, a reassuring hand on her shoulder. But… Abruptly, she caught Eyrhaen up in a hug. Brevin had called them teasing on more than one occasion. But that wasnt to be. Without using magic, she didnt stand a chance against his strength. Scowling, she tried to twist away from Lanthan, failing again. Brevins voice was so close, she had to open her eyes. He stroked gentle fingertips along her jaw. He brushed his lips over hers, then Lanthans before settling back again to watch. He held her hips, and they stayed still, simply enjoying the connection. Perhaps in the future, He can provide more. I doubt we could have flourished when every man is lover to only one woman. And Im hardly one to object, given that Im truemated to another. Its so much more convenient.

She raced down them, not slowing when she reached ways that were unfamiliar to her. His throat worked to swallow, and a fine sheen of sweat shimmered on his skin. Not body and soul. It didnt even help that Brevin was sucking Tykirs cock right beside them. She fucked all the unmated males.
