Happy Memorial Day!

Well, I guess Memorial Day is actually almost over, but hope you guys had a happy one! My friend Greg and I grilled some local squash from the farmer's market today. Here's Greg hard at work:

You might notice two veggie burgers in the background. I couldn't help it. I know they're not local, but it's a freakin' holiday and the official beginning of the summer grilling season. But I gotta say, the local squash was the highlight of the meal. See how much I'm enjoying it here:

I did stick to my local food rules for lunch when I made this giant garden salad:

It's a mixture of baby lettuces, arugala, snap peas, French Breakfast radishes, organic cucumbers, carrots, green onion, toasted pecans, and tofu. Very satisfying! And though it's not pictured, I had a big ol' bowl of peaches and strawberries for a mid-afternoon snack.

I've always hated grilled season, but this year I bought a grilling wok! and I hope I will enjoy it! Your squash looks so great!

I don't know how to grill!

I wish I did, I love grilled food. There are even BBQ grills outside our apartment building, though I'm sure there is meat 'goo' all over it.

Don't feel bad about the veggie burger - it's MEMORIAL DAY! How could you not have a burger?

The squash more than makes up for it. ;-)

Grillin is the way to go on Memorial Day! It's an all-American day so as long as the food you ate was made in America, I don't think it counts against you. (okay I'm assuming bocas are made in the US....)

Woah, this is soooo creepy (but cool at the same time): I have one of those “Little Miss” shirts, and I wore mine yesterday too!!!!

And its ok to "go off" your food morals once in a while (to an extent obviously!) my mom always says one day wont kill ya!!!! but all in all it seems like you had a great day!!!!!!
