Punk Rock on My Plate!

After yesterday's raw food detox, I was hella craving some mashed potatoes and gravy today. In fact, I literally drooled over Jesse's mashed potato and tempeh post on Happy Vegan Face last night. So today, I finally tried the Mashed Potatoes with Punk Rock Chickpea Gravy from Vegan with a Vengeance:

Also on my plate are Granny's Rape Greens with Turnips (thawed out from the freezer) and a Gardenburger Chik'n Grill Patty (that I also ended up smothering with punk rock gravy).

If you haven't tried the chickpea gravy yet, I can't even begin to tell you how good it is. I seriously could have eaten a bowl full of the gravy by itself. But it was wonderful on the mashed skin-on potatoes (I like mine a bit chunky, as you can see ... no whipped taters for me).

As for the greens, my Granny makes the best greens ever! She usually uses rape greens (although sometimes she cooks turnip greens instead). I've never seen rape greens in stores, but she always picks hers from a friend's garden. They seem to have a milder taste than turnip greens. She also tends to throw in chunks of fresh turnip. Super yummy!

P.S. That sucks that he's not more health food oriented, maybe he'll experiment more in the future?

I have said it before but I mean it now - must make that gravy. Mashed taters sound so good right now.

Oh and I didn't mention it in the last post but I thought Obama was BRILLIANT in the debate. Very Presidential.

I have also never made that gravy. Need to get on that asap, because your dinner looks divine.

I've always wondered how that chickpea gravy was....seems now I'll have to give it a try. Maybe I'll have punk rock gravy for Thanksgiving while everyone else has boring old adult contemporary gravy.

I actually did try that Pumpkin Sausage a couple posts back. I forget which one though...it was so delicious, I had 4 pieces the day I made it =)

THat looks so delicious. I need to make some gravy! I love mashed potatoes with the skins on too - I'm too lazy to peel them, and that's where the vitamins are anyway.

That is seriously my favourite gravy recipe ever. I don't make it very often because Andy and I are both tempted to drink it.

Yum! I'm so curious about rape greens now! I usually use collards or mustard. Which are great, but it's always fun to try something new :)

So, how do you think the chickpea gravy and pumpkin loaf would fair together? I'm thinking Thanksgiving here...

Sorry I haven't commented in awhile. I started stage managing. I'm ridiculously busy. I'll try to call you tomorrow. Your recent posts, as always, look and sound amazing!

Your new kitchen looks AWESOME! I wanna come visit....
