Happy Poet DVD Giveaway!

Isn't it every vegan's dream to operate a successful food cart? I mean, I love my job. But if I could somehow find a way to never sleep and do it all, I'd love to run a food cart too. No overheard. Flexibility. And yet all the fun of cooking and selling your creations.

That's Bill's dream in the newly released indie film The Happy Poet. With the meager help of a teensy bank loan (due to his poor credit), Bill pours his heart into a fledgling organic, vegetarian food cart business. He secures an old hot dog cart from a crazy, somewhat violent former hot dog vendor. Bill lovingly crafts eggless egg salad sandwiches and hummus wraps in his kitchen, loads up the stand, and sets up shop in a park.

His first day is hell. Nobody buys a thing, and one man even tosses a free "sample" eggless egg salad sandwich into the trash while in Bill's eyeshot. But eventually, Bill makes some crazy new friends, and his dream starts to become reality — but not without a few challenges. You'll have to see the film for yourself to find out what happens.

I loved this film. Bill is played by indie actor Paul Gordon (also the film's writer and director), known for his signature deadpan humor. Bill's idealism and steadfastness is admirable, even if his character is a little frustratingly kindhearted. Not only does The Happy Poet encourage us to follow our dreams, but it also teaches a few life lessons about balancing kindness with self-preservation.

Now here's where you come in: The film has just been released on DVD by Cinema Libre Studio. And they want to do a The Happy Poet DVD giveaway for Vegan Crunk readers!

I have never dreamt about food. I have the most detailed nightmares that I am sure I would be rich if I could sell the screenplays.

I'd love to have the patience to make a whole aged vegan cheese plate, homemade.

Sounds like a great movie!

My dream would be to open an all-vegan store. I love the concept, but there aren't any near me. I could do that!

I would love to have a simple, inexpensive vegan restaurant that was accessible to all types of people. i think people in my area think vegan food is strange, but they don't realize how many dishes they eat are already vegan.

I'd love to have a small vegan bakery/eatery. Mainly buy and take but with a very small area for people to sit and people watch and eat.

And shared on facebook. Don't have the first clue how to share it on twitter, though.

I love being a journalist and a writer, but I'd love to have a small café/coffee shop/bookstore/art space somewhere that sells vegan food and baked goods and has an excellent selection of books. It could be a place for local artists to hang their work, an intimate environment for an acoustic set or an escape where you can get a delicious chocolate chip cookie the size of your face and a really good cup of coffee. Maybe someday somewhere! Traveling and writing about vegan places around the country and internationally wouldn't be so bad either!

I would love to design and create a line of vegan shoes, intimates and coats that are sold in mainstream department stores. Ideally, even non-vegans would buy the items because they'd be in major stores, priced well, and super cute :)

My dream is to work directly with people who want (or medically need) to follow a plant-based lifestyle, but aren't sure how to make the change. I guess this would be called nutrition consulting? But I'm less interested in caloric intake and dietary restrictions that traditional nutritionists focus on, and way MORE interested in taking a holistic approach.

Also, I just scheduled a post about the giveaway on my facebook page; it'll pop up tomorrow!

My vegan dream is to somehow create a marriage between childhood education and animal welfare. Children are so open to new knowledge yet so easily corrupted by society that I think it's important to present a compassionate way of living at a very early age.

Even if I don't win the give-away, I'm still checking out this movie :)

Hi! My vegan dream would be to have a small store full of local vegan products from food to clothes. I would like to help out local businesses/companies with their product. Thank you for a excellent giveaway! :)

Sometimes I think I just want to quit my job and work on an organic farm. It'd also be nice if there were a few animals around, but just for companionship - no eating!
