Happy Fat Tuesday!

Hey ya'll! It's our last day of debauchery before Lent begins, so laissez les bon temps rouler (or "let the good times roll," as they say in NOLA!). I don't actually celebrate Lent, nor do I live in New Orleans, but no good Southerner misses an excuse to throw a party. Today, I brought one of Kittee Kake's yummy-nummy King Cake's to the office:

Hidden somewhere in there is a white bean dressed up like a baby (thanks to Sharpie) since I couldn't find a plastic baby anywhere.

On Saturday, Stephanie (a.k.a. Poopie Bitch) and I hosted a Mardi Gras Vegan Dessert Potluck for our veggie group Food Awareness. Here we are all decked out in proper Mardi Gras colors:

Steph brought one of Kittee's King Cakes! Hers looks way better than the one I brought to work today. She used more colored sugar ...

I made the Smlove Pie from the Veganomicon:

OMG! This was so good, ya'll. Definitely my new favorite party dessert. It's a chocolate tofu-based pie with a graham cracker crust, peanut butter caramel, candied pecans, and chocolate ganache!

Steph also brought some yummy Half Blondies/Half Brownies. So good (and believe it or not, my first blondie experience)!

Corey and his girlfriend (I can't remember her name! I'm such a bad party host!) brought some non-alcoholic Darjeeling Sangria Tea, which we promptly spiked with vodka (hey, it was a Mardi Gras party!):

The lovely raw Judith made a savory Raw Bread (garnished with fresh daffodils!) to prevent us from going into sugar comas:

Overall, the event was a huge success. We all gorged on sweets, sipped tea and hurricane cocktails, and let the good time roll:

Back row: Nic, Judith, a nice lady who's name I don't remember, Dale, Corey, his girlfriend, Rita, Max, Barbara, and Vaughan. Front row: Paul (my boyfriend), Me, and Greg

Hope ya'll have a great Fat Tuesday!

What a wonderful potluck! Kittie's king cake is amazing, I really love that recipe...not to mention Isa's Smlove pie. Indeed a fat Tuesday, but so worth it, eh?

Happy Fat Tuesday! I am going to reveal my stupidity here, but I have actually never known what Lent is other that it is religious and I am, well, not.

All those sweets, oh my, I'm almost going into a sugar coma just looking at it all. That doesn't change the fact that I would LOVE to reach through my computer screen and grab some of those yummy delights.

Wow, Bianca, that looks like so much fun! You're too cute!
That picture of the S'mlove pie is really great, just the lighting and focus, wow! although as much of a chocolate and peanut butter freak as i am, when i made that pie, it was almost too much for me to handle, like i could barely eat any without feeling, like....wooooooo, haha i can't explain it...sugar high?
also, what was that raw bread made out of? it looks intriguing, especially since most raw breads you see are like flat dehydrated crackers, and this one looks thick!

also i'm about to blog your delicious sp bread!

Woah, that looks like a hell of a party! I think your king cake look as good as the ones i've had in NOLA (prior to my vegan days...)

Wish I could be sipping on a hurricane and munching on some cake in the dirty south right now!

The smlove pie is so freakishly good! Before I made it I was afraid it would turn out too sweet, but actually it is just perfectly delicious.

Your king cake is awesome too! I'm going to a pancake dinner tonight in honor of Fat Tuesday, but sadly I don't think we will have masks.

And that Smlove! Every time I see someone post one I kick myself for not having made one yet. Maybe it's time I sort that out!

hahah maybe you could incorporate chickpeas into the bread through chickpea flour? haha def joking!
but pb and sweet potatoes really might go nicely together, i once made a pumpkin pb smoothie and pumpkin is kinda like sweet potatoes right? :)

Wishing it was Fat Tuesday again and I could have been at that potluck (or in your office eating that king cake, either works).
