Vegan Monte Cristo!

Let's face it. The Monte Cristo is a weird, weird sandwich. Seriously, I'd like to know what stoner dreamed up that dish! Ham and cheese with jam and mustard served on French toast. It doesn't even sound good. But for some reason, it is.

When Laura from Peace By Pastries posted her recipe for a Vegan Monte Cristo, I knew I had to give a shot:

In a word — delicious! I used Yves Meatless Deli Ham, Follow Your Heart Vegan Cheddar (though I believe a white "cheeze" would be even better), and Ezekial bread. I chose organic grape jelly (my fave!) and spicy brown mustard for condiments. The bread is battered in a cinnamon-y French toast that I wouldn't mind eating on its own for breakfast sometime.

Don't be scared! Try Laura's Monte Cristo!

Hey testers, in case you missed yesterday's post, there are new recipes on the tester site! Yippee!

Holy moly! I LOVED Monte Cristos way back in the days before I was veg. I should prolly stay away from this...might lose control! It looks so good :)

I just found out about monte cristos a few weeks ago when we were planning our wedding menu. I kept telling my fiance that no one would like a ham sandwich + jam. But looking at your pictures, I think you've proved me wrong! Yum.

Ugh. I used to work at a food delivery service, and every time someone ordered the Monte Cristo from Bennigan's I cringed. It's so gross. But this one looks pretty tasty and a lot less greasy!

Huh. I've had a number of Monte Cristo's (in the old days) and never did they include jelly. Once I'm back to my former carb-unconscious self, I might have to give it a shot...

I don't think I've ever had a monte cristo - I had no idea they had jelly in them! Actually, I don't really like jelly, so that sandwich is kind of freaking me out. I do enjoy the idea of a french toast sandwich though.

PS. I posted pictures of a couple of your testers at my site!
