Skinny Bitchin'

I love Skinny Bitch. Love the book (it changed my nasty high-frustose loving, white flour-eating ways). Love the cookbook. Love the workout videos. I'm pretty sure Rory, Kim, and I would be fast friends if we ever hung out.

I've been doing the Skinny Bitch Boot Camp workout video at least once a week (to supplement my gym schedule), and that got me in the mood to pull out Skinny Bitch in the Kitch. After flipping through a few times, I settled on Steamed Veggies and Tofu with Brown Rice:

So simple - just a plate of steamed cauliflower, kale, cabbage, and carrots with Soy Boy smoked tofu and brown rice, topped tahini sauce and pine nuts. So delicious. Not that I couldn't have dreamed this dish up on my own, but sometimes it's nice to let someone else tell you what to put in your dish. I probably wouldn't have thought to top this with a tahini sauce (a mix of tahini, sesame oil, and soy sauce), but it was perfect. Oh, and I added a little sriracha at the table to kick things up a notch.

Testers: The new recipes are up on the test site. I forgot to remind people yesterday.

  2. I was SO EXCITED when those DVD's came out! I love that book, it made me go vegan. Thanks for reminding me to order them. How are they?

  3. I love the books and have been singing the praises of the cookbook to whoever will listen for some time now. Several of my go to recipes come from there.

    As for my non-dessert ways, I simply don't have a sweet tooth. There are a few exceptions, of course, like eclairs (working on a vegan one), donuts, and FFVK's double layer pumpkin cheesecake. I've always liked the creamy stuff, so my sweet tooth has gone from barely there to virtually nonexistent since I've been vegan. What changed for you?

    soooo superexcitedface about the new tester recipes! saw them yesterday & we're making some tonight! w00t!

    i would have never thought to top that plate of yummies with tahini either! nice! doesn't sriracha rock?! i love it so much! never did until dan got me into it, now i think i'm kinda addicited! ahahahaa!

  6. I love the books too! When I found out I was preggers I ran to the store and bought bun in the oven which has been very helpful. Even though they tell us about HFCS, I have noticed that if I consume the stuff in large quantities, like in Arizona Green Tea for example, I gain like 7 pounds of water weight. It falls off after I stop but between their advice and the above mentioned test,I realized that stuff is satan! The recipes look great this week. Can't wait to get started. Hubby considers himself a tester too and got really excited yesterday when I read him the new ones. You are making a tempeh lover out of him. I am so proud!

  7. I didn't know they had a workout video :)

    I have "in the'Kitch", but I think I've only made the tofu feta from it...which was awesome. I should try something else, I just always forget about it because its so small, I think.

  8. that looks really good! i have some mixed feelings about the SB series. i don't believe that body size is an accurate indicator of one's overall health. example: some skinny people can have a myriad of health problems, but never get harangued about their eating habits b/c they're skinny. conversely so, the fat chick who eats a vegan diet gets teased because she's fat-(and is assumed that she's lazy and isn't healthy). anyway, i'm an advocate of healthy eating and exercise regardless of body size-(i'm sure you are too).

    sorry for the lengthy explanation for why i've shied away from that series of books and videos. perhaps i should give that series a looksie.

  11. That is my favorite recipe from Skinny Bitch!!! Yum, yum, yum, yum!! I didn't know there was a workout video too! I hate going to smelly gyms, so gettin' fit in my apartment or on my bike is how it's done. I will have to seek this dvd out! Thanks for mentioning it.

    whenever i feel like i need inspiration i read it. seriosuly the book changed my life.

  15. Skinny Bitch did indeed turn me vegan. I pulled out my SB in the Kitch this weekend, too!

    as for your testing recipe - they all looks fantastic. and i promise, as soon as i go grocery shopping, i'm on it. maybe in the next week or two (crosses fingers)!

  20. Ok, I'm so unaware...I have heard of the skinny bitch books, but didn't know they did exercise, too!
    I know what you mean, sometimes it's just easier to let someone else tell you what to add to the pan!
