  8. I am stunned at this dining guide. When I left Memphis in 1999, the dining scene was definitely not vegan-friendly and there were no all-vegetarian restaurants in town. Apparently a lot has changed! I will use your guide as a reference next time I'm visiting the city. Thanks for doing the research.

  13. Hey! How's that South Indian place? (Flavors) I might recommend it to a friend in the area. I was last in Memphis in '98 and had some amazing, super crazy spicy Indian food, but the name of the place escapes me now.

  24. Hey,

Rizzo's diner in south main does vegan very uniquely and well...the stuffed avocado with quinoa is always on the menu. Each night the vegetarian special changes and if it isn't vegan the chef will make it so. If you call ahead and let him know you are vegan he will tailor a dish to your liking. We have people that come in and order 4 courses off the menu, all vegan, by request. So though we aren't a vegan restaurant, we happily cater to you and there are plenty of choices for the carnivorous. (:

  25. Went to Trolley Stop last night, and they said they didn't carry vegan tortillas for the wraps. The pizza is still really good, but I love the wraps and was sad I couldn't have one.

  26. I'm vegan and work at Otherlands Coffee Bar, and just wanted to make an update - we no longer carry Daiya cheese for cheese toast, sadly :( Just regular old cheddar. Thankfully, we still have Earth Balance butter for things like cinnamon toast. :)

The new digs are a little different than the old but the food (and desserts) are just fabulous. Also ate at Fuel; had the vegan 'duck' spring rolls and peanut dipping sauce. EXCELLENT!! My friend gave me the Edible Memphis mag with your article as well. Life is good.

  33. Thanks so much! My boyfriend and I are vegetarians, living in midtown. I also don't eat cow products. It's awesome that you took the time to write a restaurant guide. ReplyDelete
  44. Hey Arthur! That is a great suggestion. I'll try to add gluten-free tips when I know a place has gluten-free stuff. I'm not gluten-free myself, so I have to admit that I haven't paid much attention to that in local restaurants in the past. But I'll try to start!

  45. It would be great to include a map of these restaurants on the page, so people who are living in (or visiting) a particular part of town can quickly see what is near them!

I ate a Seasons 52 the other night and instead of having to go into detail about how I need my food fixed since I am a vegan, they gave me a menu book that actually offers vegan options for their regular menu items. Not only vegan options, but those who have sodium and lactose problems had a menu. The food was great, the atmosphere was great, and it was not over-priced. Check it out!.

  56. Concerning Casablanca, doesn't the falafel sandwich come with thousand island? I was told their thousand island had cream. Also, Los Comales needs a place on your guide! Their mushroom sopes are amazing (modified to be vegan of course) and they serve fresh juices like mango and jicama! I agree with the Rizzos comment as well. I believe their brunch curry tofu scramble is vegan. One more thing! I heard a rumor that bhan thai has removed fish sauce from their curries! You should verify that so we can all enjoy their panang :)

  60. Places I really liked: Mama Gaia, Pink Diva Cupcakery (those cupcakes were soooo good), Sabor Caribe, Deja Vu Creole Soul Food and Vegetarian Cafe (great menu), and Chang’s Bubble Tea (those bubble teas are to die for!). I also recommend seeing these vegan restaurants near me. Thank you for a wonderful list! I will definitely visit more places from it!
    Much love and appreciation!

  62. Should add Tycoon Chinese Restaurant on Kirby Parkway. They have really, really good General Tso's Tofu. Ask for it "Burnt" if you like it crispy.

  64. I have loved this page as a resource! It's such a valuable tool to Memphians! I just wanted to add that Ikea has the veggie meatballs which are vegan, with several options of sides. They now have the veggie dog which is full vegetarian. I was looking into it and it seems that they are planning on launching vegan soft serve in summer 2019! Thanks again, so much!

  65. I just wanted to add that Le Delights in Cordova (at Macon and Germantown pkwy) has vegan options! There’s a whole vegetarian section in the back (although I am unsure of the vegan-ness of all items) and they have the best vegan Bahn Mi I’ve ever had!! Make sure to get the vegetarian roll (summer/spring/fresh roll w peanut sauce) too. But seriously I live in midtown and make the drive for that Bahn Mi alone. The people who work there are super friendly and helpful and know what vegan means so I’m sure they would gladly help with any questions. It’s seriously amazing, if you’ve never been you’re missing out!
