About two summers ago, I had the pleasure of meeting one awesome PPK-er, Panda Cookie, at Veganstock 2009. You can see her little monster crafts (and her new zine Baggin' and Ballin') on her blog. I have a wee blue monster and one of her tofu pirate tote bags, and I think about how swell Panda is every time I look at them. By the way, I really wish someone would buy me Panda's Tofu Scramble Plush Pirate Set! OMG!! Just look at it!! An asparagus, a mushroom, and a tofu pirate!!!
But scramble plush set or not, there's at least one other time that I think back to hanging out with Panda at Veganstock in Asheville, North Carolina. That would be every time I eat Peanut Butter with Marmite:
All-natural, salted chunky PB swirled with smidgen of yeasty, salty Marmite. It may be the second best Marmite combo on earth. The first would be my fave tofu cottage cheeze with Marmite, but I've blogged about that before.
But one night (or was it a day?) at Veganstock, we got on the topic of things to do with Marmite, as all vegans do from time to time. Panda mentioned combining it with peanut butter, and though the combination sounded strange at first, I had to try it when I returned home. So glad I did! Thanks Panda!
How do you eat your Marmite?
ooo, yes pb and marmite. good combo. my ultimate is just marmite and some nondairy butter on toast. So simple yet yummy! glad to find another marmite lover~~
ReplyDeleteAs an aussie I eat vegemite, but its pretty much a similar thing. I eat vege on toast, sammiches, crackers (like vita wheats) with pb, jam, honey or fresh tomato. Also good to mix into savoury dishes like veggie spag bol to add deeper flavour

ReplyDeleteYes to the marmite and pb! I am like panda marmiteseed, spreading the word across the south.
ReplyDeletewtf is marmite? brb learnin ;)
ReplyDeleteI was reminded of marmite the other day (my hubby has eaten it, but I have never...the shame!) because I found an article while I was researching for my veg radio show about marmite being banned in Denmark. Then here you are posting about marmite. I might just have to go out and buy some today.
ReplyDeleteYuuuuuum.
ReplyDeleteP.S. What is your email? I can't find contact info anywheeeerrrre. (Mine is the_preppy_vegan@yahoo.com)
Where do you purchase Marmite? Sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried Marmite. I've been seeing it all over the blogs lately, though. I think I need to get some the next time I'm in Meijer!
ReplyDeleteMarmite is difficult to find so I still only have dreams of tasting it (I searched two years ago every store in the area). I've heard rumors of where I can purchase it but none have proven true yet. When I do buy some marmite, I will gladly eat it with peanut butter.
ReplyDeleteIs it really that good? I've never been motivated to try it. I guess now I'll have to (I hate being uneductaed ;-)
ReplyDeleteHey Trina! Our Whole Foods sells Marmite here, though it's way pricier than it should be. But it's imported and they're the only place that sells it here, so...
ReplyDeleteAlso, you can order Marmite online.
Every time I eat a pb and marmite sandwich I have to think pf Panda, too.
ReplyDeleteI eat Marmite and non-dairy butter on toast loaded with fresh tomato every morning for breakfast
ReplyDeleteThat´s so cool! I have never thought of combining marmite and pb! :) I like to add marmite to sauces and stir fried veggies to give them a bit more taste - so nothing creative:)
ReplyDeleteMmm...peanut butter and marmite? That sounds really weird but I may just have to give it a go! Marmite is abundant here in the UK but I guess that's a bit far to go if you live in the US!
ReplyDeleteThis was my breakfast today!!
ReplyDeletePB and marmite is one of my favourite combinations. Beaten only by peanut butter and banana, or peanut butter and dark chocolate. Mmmmmmm.....
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't mean anything to me
ReplyDeleteLove love love it. Especially the crunchier the peanut butter. May have to try banana and pb now.
ReplyDeleteI am eating it right now... sandwich with PB on one side and Marmite on the other. Who said British food was bland! Rule Britannia!
ReplyDeleteMarmite is excellent for putting in PPK's chickpea cutlets as a replacement for the soy sauce. Also try brown miso mixed with PB and a couple of teaspoons of lemon juice...
Yo! Marmite is made by Unilever, vivisectionist scum. Other Yeast extracts are available! X
ReplyDeleteI eat Marmite and peanut butter sandwiches several times a week, One of the benefits of Marmite is that it is a minor but vegetarian source of B12. It makes a good substitute for soy sauce and adds depth to veggie stocks and soups. You can find it in many US groceries but it is usually shelved with the baking yeast for easy categorization.
