Remember Cookie Crisp cereal? How genius was that? Tiny little chocolate chip cookie-shaped cereal bites just waitin' to be drowned in milk. I guess Kellogg's still makes Cookie Crisp, but I don't eat conventional sugary cereals anymore. Nothing against sugar in the morning, but I prefer my morning sweets made with unrefined sweeteners, like turbinado or agave.
But that doesn't mean I have to forgo cookies in my cereal bowl. This morning, I had a delicious bowl of Chocolate Almond Cookie Crumble Granola from 500 Vegan Recipes:
Semi-sweet chocolate meets raw almonds and raw sugar in these crunchy little granola bites. They really do taste like balls of cookie dough, but they're far superior to Kellogg's artificially-flavored cookie cereal.
Here's my granola swimming in unsweetened Silk soymilk:
500 Vegan Recipes by Celine Steen and Joni Newman is a massive volume. Since I read cookbooks front-to-back like novels, I'm still working my way through the breakfast chapter. But there are plenty of delicious morning recipes, including a ton of other granolas, to choose from. Eventually, I hope to make my way to the Faux Meats chapter. That's the one I'm most excited about.

The kids I babysit for eat Cinnamon Toast Crunch, sometimes I can't help but grab a handful. I love cereal but have to refrain from eating it because I go overboard...this looks like a really awesome healthy alternative though!
Celine's granola recipes are the best, best, best!!! Your batch looks perfect. I too, read cookbooks like novels (over and over again sometimes!!).
Celine is the queen of granola. We really love the peanut butter & jelly granola. It's the best!
This looks yummy. I'd probably sit on the sofa munching on this, without the milk, in front of a film. Yum! I need to buy some more vegan cookbooks i think.
Hey, fellow vegans. I created a new Tee shirt just for us. Check it out.

Thanks!
I can't think of a better-sounding way to start breakfast! Oh, except maybe if you drizzled coconut butter over it... ;)
i used to love me some cooooooookie crisp (and captain crunch)! ah ha ha! the cookie crumble granola looks wonderful - i love a sweet start to my day as well. i'm asking for vegan 500 for my birthday, and i too read cook books like novels. glad i'm not the only one. i like to read 'em that way so i don't miss anything!
Yeah, I think I need that cookbook. Looks so good! When I was a kid I used to eat French Toast Crunch- a close relative of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I don't think they make it anymore, but wow, that stuff had to be pure sugar coated in pure sugar!
Why is cereal so delicious? I think the only 'bad' cereal I ever tried was Puffed Rice.
Oh my gosh, I made that over break, and literally could NOT stop eating it. I was compulsive! Seriously, the texture was PERFECT!
Yum yum! I have been enjoying Ezekiel cereal lately.
Yay on the Ani tix! I saw her in 2004 I think and can't wait for May!!
COOOOOOOOOOO-kie Crisp! Yum, I'd love to make this grown-up alternative... but I want to shape it into tiny cookie shapes and dip it in a tiny glass of almond milk.
Wow, that looks delish! I'll have to pick up that volume, especially since so many readers love the cereal recipes. I see overeating in my future...
Man when I was younger cookie crisp was the stuff. I loved it! I was also a huge fan of waffle crisp too, and the little cartoon on the box. But im with you also I do try to avoid overly sugared things first thing in the morning. I really want to try that out!
I so want that book! But I have to wait until we go back home to buy it. BOO!! This russian-spy job sometimes gets in the way of my fun! :D
