Fried Tofu Pockets of Goodness

I *heart* inari! Give me a buffet filled with sushi options, and I'll load my plate with far more inari than anything else. It's simply fried tofu skin stuffed with sushi rice, but it's so darn good topped with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger. I found some frozen inari wrappers at an Asian market in Memphis recently, and last night they made the base of these yummy Inari:

I used brown rice instead of white sushi rice, and I seasoned it with a little rice vinegar, salt, and turbinado. The frozen inari skins came with a cute little packet of black sesame seeds and dried veggies for topping.

On the side, I whipped up a quick Sesame Green Bean Stir-fry:

I sauteed local green beans, a red bell pepper, and some thinly sliced carrot with a little sesame oil and soy sauce. Then I topped the saute with sesame seeds and a dash of sriracha. Quick and delicious.

  2. Cool, I've never even heard of inari! I want it tough. I hate the taste of nori, so maybe inari would be a good choice for me to make sushi out of in the future!

    I love the little dried veggie bits. Very cute!

  6. I love love LOVE Inari sushi!!!

    When I lived in Japan, it was my favorite lunch. I wasn't even a vegetarian then.

    And when I lived in China, they actually sold in at the shool cafeteria :).

  8. i love inari too... i love that chewy outside. sometimes they are a little too sweet for me (or maybe i'm just having a non-sweet day), but they are still awesome!

  9. I've heard of it, but have not had Inari, yet. I will definitely get some after I move back - the dish is gorgeous. Pockets of Awesomeness!

  10. Looks delicious! I've only ever had very sweet inari... I generally think of it as a dessert, almost. I love the idea of it only being slightly sweet and somewhat savory as well!

    The green beans looks so simple and great. I've got to try it!

  13. You are so brave.... I'm totally intimidated by any and all sushi and sush-like recipes. I screwed up veggies rolls once years ago and now I'm freaked out to try again.... silly I know! But still love to get my eatin' on!!!!!! :D

  17. Man, I used to be ADDICTED to inari, especially topped with pickled ginger. I should go to the Asian market and look for inari skins - yum!

  19. I've never had inari, so that's the next thing on my shopping list at the Asian market - this looks fantastic. The sesame green beans look like a good match for the fried inari - can't wait to try this!
