That's right. This morning's breakfast included a touch of Young's Double Chocolate Stout — in my waffles! When I saw the Chocolate Beer Waffles in my new copy of Vegan Brunch, I knew that would be the first thing I'd try:
Topped with soy whip and organic chocolate syrup, these were almost too sinfully decadent for a weekday breakfast. But then again, I had a much easier time waking up for work this morning knowing what awaited my breakfast plate.
I made a whole batch on Monday night and stuck them in the freezer to re-heat each morning in the toaster. That makes this gourmet breakfast a super-quick morning meal. You can't actually taste the beer, but they're so chocolately and delicious.
Unfortunately, my waffle iron is starting to suck. All my waffles have either stuck to the iron or turned out pretty soggy lately. None of this batch stuck, but they definitely didn't get very crispy. Luckily, the re-toasting takes care of that. It used to be such a great waffle iron, but I guess no cheap appliance can live forever. Don't judge the recipe because I know a better waffle iron would toast these like magic.
OMG, beer for breakfast? I can't believe I didn't think of that!
ReplyDeleteI adore Young's Double Chocolate Stout, so I can only imagine how delish those waffles were.
Sorry your waffle iron sucks, but at least you kinda solved it with the re-toasting method :)
Sorry to hear about your sticky griddle....I have been experiencing a sticky pizza rock of late and it is frustrating!!!
ReplyDeleteThose look amazing though. Nummmmm.
Wow, that sounds right up my husband's alley!

wasn't bad so I had one more for dessert
Beautiful presentation! These look so decadent.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to toast the waffles to re-heat them!! I've tried microwaving pancakes and waffles that have been frozen and they are a little too soggy. Thanks for the great idea! Your waffles look delicious!

I've been eyeing that recipe since I got Vegan Brunch. I normally choose something healthy for breakfast, but I may have to splurge just this once. Leave it to Isa to make chocolate and beer acceptable for breakfast!
ReplyDeleteThose waffles look amazing!
ReplyDeletegah they look awesome - i wish i had a waffle iron - even a sucky one!! the strawberry on top looks so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThose look awesome! Beer and chocolate, who could ask for anything more. Even if they did stick a little they still look gorgeous! Great job!
ReplyDeleteomgggggggggggg. thoselook wonderful! it's been torture for me getting my vegan brunch book the day before i left for europe for 2 wks! i brought it to read on the plane (im such a dork!) and now i wanna make everything!!! im itching to make the chelsea and raised waffles bc they both sound very classic and simple yet unique!
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend is making those this week! I'm super excited about it. I actually sent him a picture of the recipe name in my phone when I saw it, because I knew it was perfect for him.
ReplyDeleteI always just spray the hell out of my waffle iron, I think it helps.
I absolutely love dark beers with a hint of chocolate, so these waffles sound pretty amazing!
ReplyDeleteOoh, they do look decadent! I want to make up a big batch of waffles for my freezer and toast them too.
ReplyDeleteYeh, it may be time for a new waffle iron, but at least they are not terribly expensive.
Send them across! I could use a high ;)
ReplyDeleteOh my- do those ever look decadently amazing!
ReplyDeletebeer in waffles has gotta be one gloriously good combination - wow! i never would have thought to freeze waffles, Bianca - that's brilliant! i'm sorry your waffle maker = the suck, but i'm glad re-toasting the waffles proved to be a crispy & tasty success!
ReplyDeleteI've got my eye on that chocolate beer waffle recipe too...that's what I call a breakfast of champions.
ReplyDeleteI cook with beer all the time, it adds another great layer of flavor to food! Those waffles look tasty, I've only ever made plain waffles.
ReplyDeleteYou always make such tasty looking waffles!
After much anticipation, I finally have VB in my hot little hands. I made these waffles and the tempeh scramble for brunch yesterday. I cranked my waffle iron up to high to get them crispy. I used Shiner Boch, but I think some chocolatey porter would have been even better. To balance all the richness, I made blueberry compote based on Isa's recipe in the book. The chocolate-berry-beer combo was darn tasty. Can't wait to get some of that black salt and try out some of the other recipes.
ReplyDeletegives a whole new meaning to b&b, and I like it.
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy to get up for work too if I had those! It's like putting three of my favorite things together to make something even better.
