Smooth Moves

I don't drink enough smoothies. In fact, I really only have them on raw days (and the occasional Cranberry Supreme from Smoothie King). But with warmer weather on the way, it's time to start enjoying fruits and veggies in a liquid form ... like this Blackberry Chai Smoothie:

I had this before my afternoon pilates class, and it kept me full until the class was over at 6:50 p.m. Then I rushed home for another Vegan Monte Cristo and salad. But a smoothie makes a perfect pre-workout snack.

I made this drink with frozen blackberries (left from last summer), a cup of soymilk, a tablespoon of rolled oats (for thickener), and a scoop of Arbonne's Figure 8 Chai Latte Protein Shake Powder.

I bought this stuff about a year ago at an Arbonne party, but since I rarely drink my meals, it sits in the back of the pantry most of the time. But it tastes amazing, and it's packed with 20 vitamins and minerals. It's really for weight loss because it's supposed to be a meal substitute. But I'm using it as a snack, in addition to my three solid meals. It's also vegan, like all Arbonne products (I used to only use Arbonne makeup and skincare products, but it's a little pricey so I've started buying cheaper vegan brands).

As for smoothies, I'd like your input on smoothie ideas. What's your favorite smoothie recipe?

  1. Yum! chai is the best. one of the non-vegan tgings i miss the most is starbucks chai, which has honey in it. i haven't been quite able to reproduce it yet.

Bianca, I make the craziest smoothies, they're so out there that i've been thinking i should try to publish a vegan smoothie cookbook! haha

one of my favs is 1/2 a small avocado, 1 frozen banana, a handful or 2 of spinach, a cup of honeydew, and a sprig or 2 of mint. add as much water and ice as you want for consistency! it's raw with four sources of green!

  3. I LOVE smoothies, I can't think of a better wake-me-up breakfast food.

    Our typical 'recipe':

frozen berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries)

    banana

    handful of baby spinach

    ground flaxseeds

    soymilk

    So simple and always delicious.

  11. I'm glad you mentioned Arbonne. I've been using it a long time, and I know it's pricey, but it's sure good stuff. I have lots of family/friends who sell it, so I get lots of free samples and discounts.

  12. my two favs lately are:

    Choconana
    1-mejool date
    1 frozen banana
3 tspn cacao powder (or coco powder)
    dash of nutmeg
1/2 cup rice milk (soy milk)
    agave to sweeten it up...

blend everything together and its amazing... great for a chocolate fix

    Young Coconut Shake
1 young coconut (take the meat out and save the water)
    1 frozen banana
    some frozen mango
    some frozen peaches

blend it all together and add the coconut water in there... amazing

  13. I like throwing pears in smoothies - they're so good. And of course bananas. I don't make smoothies all that often, but every time I do I'm all "Dang, this is delicious."

  14. That Chai powder sounds so yum! Arbonne stuff sounds wonderful. I don't really have a recipe - I usually toss in an apple and some spinach if I have some, apple juice, fresh parsley is really good, some ground flax...really whatever I have on hand!

  16. YUM! I have a smoothie almost every day for breakfast, or for an afternoon snack. That Chai powder sounds great! I'm definitely checking that out.

I switch it up all the time with what kind of smoothies I make, but my favorite (right now) is:

    -Hemp, soy, or almond milk
-A small handful of strawberries & blueberries (usually frozen, unless it's summer), and a few slices of frozen banana for frothiness & extra sweetness
    -1 Tbsp. flax seed
    -Hemp protein powder

Sometimes a few leaves of kale are a nice addition, too! I also love carrots in there... And dates... And blackberries or cherries... And...
