Awesome Oats

I'm generally a savory breakfast fan, but every once in awhile, I crave something creamy and sweet, like oatmeal. It's so warm and hearty on a fall morning, even if it's not that cold here yet. But I can't eat my oats nekkid. Sometimes, I stir in my favorite peanut butter for Dark Chocolate Dreams Oats:

My cat Ozzie loves chocolate peanut butter oats too!

I microwave 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, and a dash of salt. Then I stir in one or two tablespoons of the chocolate peanut butter after cooking. This time, it didn't seem sweet enough so I drizzled some agave over the top.

Inspired by a post from Shelby at La Belle Vegan, I tried Pumpkin Pie Oats this morning:

This was like eating pumpkin pie for breakfast, only with oats in it (which I guess seems like a rather obvious description, but sue me). I used a bit of homemade pumpkin pie spice (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice), 3 tablespoons of canned pumpkin, Earth Balance, and a liberal drizzle of maple syrup. Suffice to say, I'll be eating this again in the morning.

  1. I'm also more of a savory breakfast person, but the pumpkin oats look and sound like they're worth trying.

I think I'm in love with Ozzie. I have a soft spot for brown tabbies...

  11. I would have never thought to stir something like that into my oats. And dark chocolate peanut butter? Count me in! We usually do savory breakfasts here too - or just fruit.

That pumpkin one sounds like it might be good too. Pumpkin is something that I never used to like, but my tastes have changed so much since going veg, perhaps I should give it a shot.

  26. Oatmeal kicks ass. It's so versatile.
Confession: I sometimes just eat uncooked oats. Just grab a punchful from the container with the old guy on the front and shove it in my mouth. Very chewy. :)

  36. Must be something about the cooler weather, but I've been having oats in the morning recently, too. Peanut butter stirred into oatmeal is the best, but I can see how CHOCOLATE peanut butter would be even better!
